Daughter of William and Mary Jane Kinnison Sisler. Her father was killed in the Civil War. Married to John Joseph Buttermore and they were the parents of seven children. During the Diptheria Epidemic of 1894, three children died within one week. Their other children were: Frances, Joseph R, Florence E and Margaret Jane.

An active member of the First Methodist Episcopal church, a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Ladies' Aid Society. She was also a member of the Women's Culture Club.
