He resided in the Hudson County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 20, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as filer, grinder, buffer, and polisher of metal and also as Single, with dependents.

B-17G #43-37655 took off, with a crew of 9, from Station #139 in England on a strategic mission over an Oil Refinery near Meresburg, Germany. Near the target they were attacked by German Fighter aircraft which eventually caused their B-17 to explode in mid-air and eventually crash in Germany. Four members of the crew were able to parachute out prior to the B-17 exploding and became POW's of the German Army.
