Lloyd Allen Spencer, 86, of Mt Hope, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017. He was the son of the late Charles Robert Spencer and Lena Jennings Spencer. Born November 5, 1930, in Cunard, WV, Lloyd was a 1949 graduate of Woodrow Willson High School, where he lettered in football and wrestling. He also attended Beckley College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree. Lloyd served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Medal. He was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church, Prosperity. Lloyd enjoyed fishing and bowling. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles R. Spencer Jr.; sisters, Margaret Jones, and Lora Dane Bowyer. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Toney Spencer; daughters, Verinda Almond and husband Ted “Bink” of Bradley, and Regina Spencer of Prosperity; granddaughters, Alayna Lesher and husband Josh, Zara Grow and husband Brandon, and Olivia Almond; great-grandson Jackson Grow and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. Friends may gather with the family Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 11:30am-1pm. Funeral services will be held 1pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 with Pastor Chris Chesley officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
