Interment will be in First Pentecostal Cemetery in Bayou Rouge. The Rev. Bro. Ray Johnson, pastor of First Pentecostal Church of Denham Springs, will officiate at the services.
Johnnie was a native of Bayou Rouge and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was a multi-talented man who had his Aviation License and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Manatee AO 58 during the Korean War. He was a founder of the original Board of First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge, where he was also the Sunday School Superintendent. Johnnie loved to cook and often did so for many of the local churches. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Denham Springs. He retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 406 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and later started Town and Country in Baton Rouge as a building contractor specializing in new construction and remodeling.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae Soileau Mitchell of Baton Rouge; two sons, Chet Mitchell and his wife, Mindy, of Palmetto, and Clayton Mitchell and his companion, Malinda Fontenot, of Baton Rouge; a sister, Everta Monako of Greenwell Springs; one grandchild, Kaitlyn Marie Mitchell Kogel and her husband, Adam, of Livingston; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamen Franklin Mitchell and the former Melanie Schexnayder; four brothers, JT Soileau, Ferral Mitchell, Hollace Mitchell and Price Mitchell; two sisters, Mary Camarata and Ruth Yates; and a grandchild, Logan “Bubba” Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be Adam Kogel, Lynn Cacioppo, Carl Soileau, Douglas Soileau and Todd Guillot. Honorary pallbearers will be Bro. Glen Leger, Sylton Boudreaux and Ursin Boudreaux.
