James Albert Mahurin, the son of Stephen Mahurin and Rachel Dewees, was born May 12, 1851 in Grayson County, Kentucky. Huis paternal grandparents were Stephen Manurin, Sr and Sarah (Meeks) Green. His maternal grandparents were Edward Dewees and Rutha Elizabeth Harrell. He married Mariah Shain, daughter of John Wesley Shain and Anna McDaniel, on November 18, 1880 there. James Albert Mahurin died at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 20 days on October 2, 1937 in Yeaman, Grayson County, Kentucky. James and Mariah are both buried at the Mahurin Cemetery near Tousey, Grayson County, Kentucky.
