Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Frank and Etelvina (Cordeiro) Francis. He is survived by his children Robert Francis of East Providence, Michael K. Francis (Patricia) of Coventry, Loretta E. Francis of Bristol, and Karen L. Overy (Frank) of Bristol. He had three grandsons Mark J. Overy, Steven Francis and Scott Francis. He was also the father of the late Joseph Francis Jr. Joe was the brother of the late Frank, Charles, Everett and Louis Francis, Mary Faria and Laura F. Sardinha. He was affectionately known as “Te Za” to his many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.
Joe was the proprietor of ELJ Inc and The Bristol Golf & Country Club. After his retirement, Joe and Thereza spent their winters in Stuart, Florida. He took great pleasure in the gift of Mother Nature and was his happiest in the great outdoors, working in his yard and tinkering on his many projects.
His funeral services will be held Friday, December 28th, 10 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
