Don LeRoy Stephens, 77, died December 10, 2018 from natural causes at his home in Rathdrum, ID.

He was born in Ogden, Utah on January 27, 1941, the son of Adrian L. and Winifred Peters Stephens.

He attended Washington School in Ogden, Utah then moved with his family in 1952 to Midvale, Utah.

In his youth he participated in and received many awards and certificates for marble competitions, and as he matured, for track and field, swimming, basketball and baseball.

He attended Midvale School and Jordan High School.

He was an overachiever reaching the top of his game in all challenges.

In 1959 he entered the U.S. Army at Ft. Douglas (SLC) to become a paratrooper then transferred to Ft. Ord, CA then Ft. Knox, KY and finally Ft. Campbell, KY.

He was released as a Sargent three years later.

He served as a heavy weapons infantryman and received his wings in 1960 for the Screaming Eagles, 101St. Airborne.

He received commendations for rifle marksmanship and parachuting.

He loved baseball and pitching and carried that love to his military career where he played in the U.S. Army Missile Command 3rd Army Baseball Tournament at the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.

Don liked cars all of his life.

He worked 35 years in the auto body industry, most of that time with Rick Warner Ford in Salt Lake City.

After that he was self-employed as a coast-to-coast truck driver and drove with his wife for GD&G Trucking until he retired in Rathdrum, ID.

Don is survived by his wife, Gail Stookey Carpenter Stephens (Rathdrum, ID); and his daughter, Jamie Delli (Salt Lake City, Utah); his son Jason Stephens and stepson Wade E. Carpenter preceded him in death; his three stepchildren, Clint R. Carpenter (Post Falls, ID); Dona G. Carpenter-Nichols (Kearns, Utah); Monte D. Carpenter; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He will be deeply loved and missed by those who knew him for his quiet, extreme strength and personal fortitude.

A graveside dedication and memorial will take place in September of 2019 at the
Stookey Family Cemetery in Clover (Rush Valley), Utah.
