Jasper F. Holmes Dies Friday Nite

Father of Jackson Resident Passes Away After Lingering Illness

Jasper F. Holmes, 67, died at the home of his son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Magee, 1304 North Congress street, at 8:15 o'clock Friday night after a lingering illness.

Mr. Holmes spent the greater part of his life in Pike county where he took an active interest in all civic and religious matters. He was sheriff of Pike county and a merchant in Summit until 1928 when he retired on account of failing health. Since then he had made his home with his son, Dr. W. C. Holmes, in Memphis and in Jackson with his daughter.

He was a devout Christian gentleman, a member of the Methodist church from early boyhood. He was affiliated with the Masonic order and the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, Mrs. Vallie H. Magee, two sons, Dr. W. C. Holmes, Memphis, and J. C. HOlmes, of Jackson, one stepson, R. B. Godbold, of New Orleans; two sisters, Mrs. Will Andrews, Kokomo, and Mrs. Estus Pigott, Tylertown, and five brothers, T. W.; J. W.; M. L.; S. D.: and R. E. Holmes, all of Tylertown, and four grandsons, Henry Holmes, Curtis Magee, Robert and Charles Holmes, all of Jackson.

Funeral services will be held from the family residence, 1304 North Congress street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. M. L. Burton officiating, assisted by Dr. J. Lloyd Decell, pastor of Galloway Memorial Methodist church. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial park.

Active pallbearers are; Dr. W. C. Holmes, J. C. Holmes, Dr. H. L. Magee, Sim Tullos, E. F. Magee, Lloyd Davis, Sidney Holmes, R. B. Godbold.

The honorary escort will include; Dick Woods, H. B. Holmes, Wren Caston, W. W. Holmes, D. C. Holmes, W. T. Denman, J. B. Alford, M. H. Godbold, G. C. Godbold, Judte Hatt Harper, all of McComb; J. T.
