Newbury, NH - Claire “Nana” L. (Fosdick) Thomas, 96, died Monday, December 17, 2018.

Claire one of seven children was born in Boston, MA on July 15, 1922 the daughter of Robert B. and Edna V. (Davis) Fosdick.

Claire graduated from Roslindale, MA High School and attended the Cambridge City Hospital School of Nursing.

Claire started her career in the Cadet Nurse Corp during WWII and later went on to be a RN supervisor at several Boston area nursing homes and was on the staff at Glover Memorial Hospital in Needham, MA before retiring in 1983. Claire taught home nursing for 10 years and volunteered for the Red Cross. Claire resided in Newbury since 1983 previously living in Needham, MA for 37 years.

Claire was a member of the South Newbury Union Church, Past Matron and Chaplain of Silver Hill Vesta Chapter #49 The Order of the Eastern Star of Bradford, a member of the Community Workshop of Bradford and Newbury and the Crafty Ladies of Newbury.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Henry E. Thomas, Sr., in 1999. Claire leaves behind her two daughters and a son, Carole, Henry Jr. “Hank” and Ruth; seven grandchildren, Herla, Ronald, Christa, Andrew, Brian, Kimberly and Kelley; and five great grandchildren, Katie, Louis, Jake, Trevor and Gemma.

A memorial service will be held at the South Newbury Union Church and burial will be in Marshall Cemetery, South Newbury at a later date.
