Born Oswald Arthur Fleming in 1881 in Kirkwall and St Ola district, Orkney, but his marriage was registered as 'Atherton Fleming '(which is also said to be his pen name as a journalist) a Scottish journalist whose professional name was "Atherton Fleming." At his death he was registered as Oswald Atherton Fleming, and perhaps he didn't really like any of these names, as he was known as Mac to his friends.
m1.1911-1924 (div) Winifred Ellen Meyrick b.14 Sep 1882 Amesbury, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom d.15 Feb 1968 in Danvers, Essex, Massachusetts, United States, had two children (Kathleen Mary Fleming and Betty Ann (Fleming) Schreurs); divorced 1924. Then he married Dorothy Sayers 8 April 1926 at Holborn register office; he was a journalist by now.
Mac died in June 1950 at their cottage in Witham, Essex. His health had been in a poor state for some time largely as a result of his service in the First World War, and he had eventually become unable to work, and felt somewhat eclipsed by his wife, who had a very flourishing career; it's said that he drank too much. But he remained married to Dorothy to the end of his life. He was cremated at Ipswich Crematorium 12 June 1950.

Parents: John William Fleming 1855-1920 m.19 Jul 1881 Jane Peebles MacConochie (@1853 - 1924)
