Mrs. Margaret E. Steffenhagen, 89, of Wagner’s Hollow Road, Fort Plain, New York passed away, Monday, December 24, 2018 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on February 2, 1929 in Gloversville, New York, she was the daughter of Victor Putman and Marion Christman Putman. She was a graduate of Fonda High School, Class of 1946 and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Steffenhagen was employed with the former Fort Plain Hotel as a housekeeper for 10 years. She also worked for Lee Publications at PennySaver for 10 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. She was predeceased by daughter, Mary Mykel; grandson, Timothy Johnson; sisters, Dorothy Saltsman, Anna Nellis, and Bernice Dodds; and brothers, Gordon and Elmer Putman. Mrs. Steffenhagen is survived by her son, Robert K. Steffenhagen (Pamelia) of Choctow, OK; daughter, Cynthia E. Kesselring (Leo) of Rochester, NY; sisters-in-law, Shirley Putman, Nina Steffenhagen, Jane (O. Richard) Davis, and Peg Putman; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family wishes to especially thank the many compassionate care givers at Palatine Nursing Home for their many years of dedicated service. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Margaret E.
