Beverly Mitchell Steele, 89, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 24, 2018.

Born Beverly Ann Mitchell, in Owensboro, on October 21, 1929, to the late Harlan and Annabelle (Bellew) Mitchell, Beverly married the late Charles Carroll (Charlie) Steele on September 2, 1950 and, for nearly fifty-two years, enjoyed the life and family they built. Charlie predeceased Beverly on April 28, 2002.

Beverly graduated from Owensboro High School, attended Webster University, was an active member of the Catholic Church, devoted to her family and many friends, and, for the last decade, inseparable from her dog, Buffy.

Known for her wit, charm, and beauty, Beverly, an only child, excelled at nurturing a large family. She and Charlie, starting two years after their marriage, had seven children in eight and a half years, and delighted in having a big family. Beverly reveled in family meals, feeding as many as nine nightly, and made large holiday gatherings memorable and seemingly effortless.

Beverly enlivened a room and was gracious to all, regardless of age or circumstance. Her positive outlook, faith and resilience will long inspire her extended family.

While raising her large family, and attending the lessons, games and events of her children, Beverly somehow found the time to take an occasional class at Brescia University, play tennis (with her beloved tennis group) and bridge, tend her roses, and volunteer at community organizations, including the Owensboro Symphony, Owensboro Junior League and the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.

A joy and inspiration until the last moment, Beverly is survived by her children: Stephen (Denise), Atlanta, Georgia; Mary Michael (Sam) Corbett, Louisville, Kentucky; Christopher (Lori) Owensboro; Charles, Jr. (Maureen), New Canaan, Connecticut; Susan (Ken) Morrell, Louisville; and Cynthia (David) Daunhauer, Louisville; her sixteen grandchildren: Scott (Alysia) Steele, Louisville; Mitchell (Suzanne) Morrell, William (Jenna) Morrell and Jonathon Morrell, of Louisville; Matthew Morrell, of Georgetown, Texas; Mary Michael Daunhauer, Nashville, Tennessee; Emily Daunhauer, Lexington; Annelise Steele, Charles Steele III, Christina Steele, and Jacqueline Steele, of New Canaan, Connecticut; Whitney (Nick) Hubbard, Owensboro; Forrest Steele, Owensboro; Danielle (Joshua) Zingler, Carson, California; Christopher Steele, and Natalie Jo Steele, of Salt Lake, Utah; and four great-grandchildren: Logan Morrell, Louisville, Cameron Hubbard, Owensboro; and Sebastian and Theodore Zingler, Carson, California. Her son, David, of Owensboro, predeceased her June 23, 2007.

A life well lived will be celebrated at a visitation at Glenn Funeral Home, 900 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, Friday, December 28, 2018, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, followed by prayers at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen Cathedral, 610 Locust Street, Owensboro, Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Rosehill Elmwood Cemetery.
