Our gentle giant Mr. Hal Morris "Moe" Stanley passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Forests Heights Assisted Living in Winston-Salem. Mr. Stanley was born in Surry County on August 9, 1938 to N.C. Stanley and Pauline Shinault Stanley. Mr. Stanley graduated from Mineral Springs High School. Mr. Stanley retired from Western Electric,where he was an Engineer Associate and Draftsman for 33 years. Mr. Stanley loved growing vegetables and many beautiful flowers, but his greatest passion were his grandchildren. Mr. Stanley was proceeded in death by his parents and younger brother, Jerry Dale Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a member of Mathews Chapel Church of Christ, where he was on the building committee. During his membership at Shattalon Church of Christ, he was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent for several years and served on the building committee for two major projects. Mr. Stanley is survived by his loving wife Barbara Stanley of 60 years. Two sons, Michael Stanley of Winston-Salem, Mitchel Stanley (Adrienne), one daughter Michele Harmon (Chuck), all of Walnut Cove. One sister Robin Stanley Key (Van) of Tobaccoville and three nieces. Six wonderful grandchildren; One precious great grandchild. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of Salem Funeral Home on Reynolda Road at 12pm on Thursday December 27th, 2018. Following the viewing, funeral services will be conducted at 1pm. The service will be officiated by Mr.Chuck Harmon. Internment will be at Fulp Moravian Church in Walnut Cove. At other times the family will be receiving friends at Mr. Stanley's home.The family would like to send many thanks to the staff at Forrest Heights memory care unit. They demonstrated loving and passionate care for Mr. Stanley these last 3 1/2 years. A special recognition to James Vinson, who was extraordinary care taker as well as a good friend to Mr. Stanley.
