Jessie Jewel Weaver, 90, of Lexington and widow of A. Taylor Weaver passed away December 21, 2018. The daughter of the late Pernell and Stella Pierce Hurst, she was born on Jan. 30, 1928 in Flemingsburg, KY. She was a member of Broadway Christian Church. Jessie retired after 35 years with GTE as an administrative assistant. After a few years in retirement, she was employed with the Sanders-Brown Center for Aging at the University of Kentucky. In 2014 at 86 years-old, Jessie received the Senior Star Award given in conjunction with the Markesbery Symposium on Aging and Dementia presented by the Sanders-Brown Center for Aging. The Senior Star Award recognizes and honors individuals throughout Kentucky who exemplify graceful aging by remaining engaged in an active lifestyle.

Jessie and her forever soulmate, A. Taylor Weaver met in 1946 when Jessie was 19 years-old. They wed the following year and embarked on an extraordinary love story spanning across several states, Taylor’s deployment and service in the United States Air Force, three daughters, and over seven decades of love, laughter and devotion. In 1982, Taylor was involved in a car accident leaving him to live out the rest of his 10 years at the VA Hospital. Jessie visited him every single day until he passed in 1991, and never considered another suitor the rest of her life. The family is comforted knowing Taylor was waiting with open arms to embrace the love of his life for eternity.

She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Sullivan of Lexington, Nancy Morrow of Sarasota, FL, and Sherry (Richard) Burton of Lexington; one sister Hazel Close; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. In addition to her husband of 48 years and parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Evelyn Hurst Zornes and Donald Gene Hurst.
