Opal was born August 26, 1924 in Greenville, SC to mother, Augie Austin Avery and father, Frank Homer Avery and was the mother of 5 children. She served in the U.S. Army during WWII from December 1943 to July 1945. She resided most her life in Georgia, with the exception of 11 years in Freeport, FL. Due to her lengthy illness she resided with her daughter Marlene since August 1997. She was preceded in death by her son, Howard L. Hill, Jr. and is survived by brother, James Homer Avery; son, James Boyd Christensen; daughters, Darlene Sanders, Marlene Brewer, Rhonda Turner; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 2:00 pm from Tara Garden Chapel with interment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Joseph Brewer officiating.
