SACRAMENTO/UTICA - Mr. Anthony S. Luce, age 93, of Sacramento, California and formerly of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.
Born in Utica on May 4, 1925, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony "Ando" and Jennie (Ruggiero) Luce. A member of the Greatest Generation and a veteran of the United States Army/Air Corps, Anthony served his country with honor during World War II as a B-29 Aircraft Mechanic. On October 3, 1961 he married the former Edith M. Plato who passed away on April 28, 2016. They were a devoted couple, and parenting was a blessing to their 54 year marriage. In 1962 he and his wife relocated to Southern California, from 1965-1967 they resided in Fairfield, from 1967-1979 they resided in Vacaville, and in 1979 they made Sacramento their home.
When residing in Utica, Anthony worked at Griffiss Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic and continued his government work in Fairfield, California at Travis Air Force Base until his retirement. Tony was a fan of the Big Band Era jazz music and swing songs, especially Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and nostalgic old-time radio programs. In the 1960's he participated in league bowling and in the 1970's he and his wife shared this sport. He took pleasure in solving crossword puzzles, jumbles, and 3,000-piece puzzles which were put together with ease. He was currently working on an intricate puzzle of New York City. He was also an avid reader.
As the patriarch of his family, he was always there for his children during good times and bad. He lived a virtuous life, loved his family, and left a legacy of patriotism to his country and pride in his career.
Anthony is survived by his sons, Joseph A. Luce and Noelle White, and Salvatore J. Luce. Always close to his heart were the memories of his son Anthony J. Luce who passed away when he was an infant; and his two infant daughters, Eugenia Veronica and Theresa Marie. He also leaves his grandchildren, Anthony "AJ" Luce, and Zachary White; in-laws, Marie Luce, and George Plato, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Lorraine Luce, Louis Luce, and Pasquale and Phyllis Luce.
The family will honor and commemorate Anthony's life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning, December 28th at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. "May God bless and protect all of you, always and all ways."
