Raymond “Bernie” Foster, 77, of Hatteras, NC died Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at his home.

A native of Hatteras Island, he was born March 20, 1941, to the late Rosa Burrus Foster and Hallas C Foster.

A member of Hatteras United Methodist Church, Bernie was a captain on the trawler Miss Quality, he was a mate with Bobby Scarborough on the Red Fin and a deckhand with Bobby on the trawler Brother’s Pride. He ran Top Dollar fish house, Quality Seafood, and Eph’s fish house.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cecilia Austin Foster; four children, Cecil Foster, Missy Foster both of Hatteras, NC, Darrell Ann Maxwell (Charles), and Raymond Di Sabatino both of New Castle, DE; seven grandchildren, Sophia and Max Foster of Midlothian, VA, Adrian, Samantha, and Rachael Maxwell of New Castle, DE and Chris and Austin Di Sabatino of New Castle, DE; one great-grandchild, Madison Ann D’Angelo of New Castle, DE; a brother-in-law, Ray Scarborough of Buxton, NC; many nieces, nephews, friends; and sister-in-law, Penny Veal of Frisco, NC whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Opal Scarborough and Desmond Foster; and one sister-in-law, Janet Foster.

Plans for a memorial service are pending at this time.
