Jerry M. Murray passed away after a short illness on December 19, 2018. Jerry was born on August 10, 1940 to Clyde and Erna Murray of Roosevelt, UT. Jerry met the love of his life, Carolyn Jeane Stoddard, in Roosevelt and they were married in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on January 8, 1962. They lived in Roosevelt until 1968 when they moved to Heber City, UT with their 2 young boys, Cory and Lonny. Jerry managed the Christensen Department store where he became a well-know fixture in the community. Jerry (J-hawk) was a full-time member of the Wasatch County Sheriff Posse for 4 years, 2 of which he served as captain. It was in Heber when his daughter, Leslie, joined the family. After Christensen’s burned down in 1972, the family moved back to Roosevelt where Jerry worked a number of jobs until being hired by the Utah Highway Patrol, which took the family to Coalville. Jodi was born a few months after their arrival. After one year in Coalville, Jerry put in for and received a transfer back to Heber City where he lived until his death. Jerry retired from the UHP in 1998 after 22 ½ years. In May of 2000, Jerry married his dear friend, Jackie Silcox, and they spent many years riding horses together. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous callings during his lifetime.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, his parents, Clyde and Erna, and his brother, Nick, and brother-in-law, Fritz Hansen. Jerry is survived by his brothers and sisters, Lois Hansen, Donna and Venoy Davies, Larry and Cheryl Murray, and Danny Murray, his sons, daughters and their spouses, Cory and Linda Murray of Bountiful, Lonny and Heather Murray of Roosevelt, Leslie and Randy Milano of West Jordan, Jodi and Paul Nagel of Leander Texas, and had 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren at the time of his death. Also survived by his horse, Charlie Brown, and his dog, Lucky.

A viewing will be held at Heber Valley Funeral Home at 288 N. Main St in Heber City on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the L.D.S. chapel on 400 South and 300 East on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. A short viewing will be held that morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Roosevelt City Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday after the funeral.
