HODGES — Bessie Eunice Ross Simmons, 88, widow of the late Floyd Monroe Simmons, resident of Highway 25 North, died Thursday December 20, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 23, 1930 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Bessie Terry Ross, she attended Greenwood County Schools and retired from Monsanto.

Eunice enjoyed writing poetry, and had the gift of remembering everyone’s special day, such as birthdays and anniversary. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are her children, Ann Ballard and husband Paul of Pageland, SC, and Leroy Simmons and wife Wanda of Hodges; her daughter-in-law Miriam Simmons of Greenwood; her grandchildren, Chris Simmons, Lisa Creswell, Bryan Simmons, Lynn Louden, Kim Ballard, Tim Ballard, and Candace Davis; 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons, James Simmons and Tommy Simmons.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 12:30 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Saxon officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 11:30 until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Simmons, Bryan Simmons, Tim Ballard, Kawelo Simmons, Brewer Buckwald, Shawn Louden, and Steven Creswell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Moore, Terry Ross, Tony Sullivan and Bill Davenport.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to their cousin Janice Davenport.
