A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim's Baptist Church. Family visitation at 2 p.m. and interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Vivian "Dena" Dance-Harris entered eternal glory on December 18, 2018 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family and friends.

Dena was born on April 13, 1942 in Brunswich County, VA to Holland and Lucille Blackwell. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. In 1969 she moved her young family to the Roanoke, Valley area, where she became a pillar in the Hunt Manor community. In this community she organized Block parties, 4-H Clubs and other activities to engage the youth and adults in her community, instilling family values in all that encountered her.

Dena was a CNA and was employed with Lewis Gale Hospital for many years. She continued her career at Burrell Nursing Home and Southern Manor Assistant Living facilities of Roanoke until her health forced her into early retirement. Dena joined Garden of Prayer No. 6, COGIC in 1974 where she served faithfully under the spiritual leadership of Elder Lonnie Wilson. She later joined New Covenant COGIC under the leadership of Rev. William Holland where she served in any area of the ministry needed for the glory of God.

In 2014, she joined Pilgrim Baptist Church where she faithfully worshipped for the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ until her earthly departure.

Dena is preceded in death by one daughter, Lolita Fladger, one grandson, Gregory Grant and her parents, Holland and Lucille Blackwell and one brother Elton Blackwell.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Dennis (Dianne) L. Barnett, of Locus Grove, GA, James E. Barnett of Roanoke, Suzette Dance, Tennille, GA; Portia M. Dance of Roanoke, John (Marlene)Dance, Roanoke, 18 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, three brothers; Herbert (Natlie) Blackwell, Bronx, NY; Richard (Bernice) Blackwell and Kester (Eva) Blackwell, Roanoke, one sister, Frances Hill, Kilean, Texas, a very close friend, Mrs. Hazel Mills of Roanoke and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, 2:30PM at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Family visitation at 2:00PM and interment will be in Williams Memorial Park.
