Byron Earl Clark, age 85, from Boise, Idaho, went to his eternal home in heaven on December 19, 2018.

Byron was born on June 26, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Albert Earl and LaVina Victoria Clark. He had two sisters, Darlene and Dolores. He attended Minnehaha Academy in 1952, where he was involved in student council, track, gymnastics, and football, and was named all-state in the latter sports.

In September of 1952 in Great Lakes, Illinois, Byron joined the Navy, where he served for two years, primarily on the USS Tweedy. He was honorably discharged in June of 1954 and decorated with a National Defense Service Medal.

Byron married Janet Lenora Winkle on September 6, 1957 at the Kirkland, Washington First Church of the Nazarene. After their oldest son, Lauren, was born in Kirkland in 1959, they moved to Nampa, Idaho to attend Northwest Nazarene College where he studied ministry. Their second son, Robert, was born prematurely in January of 1964 in Nampa, and only lived 12 hours. After college, Byron became the pastor at the Alberta, Minnesota Church of the Nazarene, where he remained for four years. He enjoyed working with the local high school as a track coach, specializing in the pole vault. While in Alberta, their third son, Daren, was born. Byron and Janet moved to the Winona, Minnesota Church of the Nazarene for two years, where their fourth son, Rocky, was born. After living in Winona, they moved to the St. Paul, Minnesota Church of the Nazarene for two years, and then he accepted a call to the Cody, Wyoming Church of the Nazarene where they stayed for five years. While in Cody, he also worked as a school bus driver.

Byron enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys, especially while in Minnesota and Wyoming. He also enjoyed golf, city-league volleyball, and softball.

In 1977, the family moved to The Dalles, Oregon where Byron served as pastor at the Church of the Nazarene and they stayed for 24 years. He also drove school bus full-time. On July 25, 1997, his wife, Janet, passed away. In 2001, he retired from full-time ministry and moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to family. There he met Bernice Wolstenholm and they eventually married on November 2, 2002.

Everywhere Byron went he was active in community service organizations, including the Lions Club, where he was the president of several chapters. The Nazarene districts he served in where blessed with his leadership at youth camps and denominational events.

Byron is survived by his wife, Bernice; and sons, Lauren (Patti), Daren (Cheryl), and Rocky (Dani). He leaves eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Knudson, and nieces, Carolyn Norris and Colleen Worley. He leaves four stepchildren, Lavon (Bob) Tattrie, Jim (Carol) Wolstenholm, Randy (Cindy) Wolstenholm, Jill (Dan) Jirek; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
