March 18, 1946 ~ December 20, 2018 (age 72)

Earl Campbell Cross, 72, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, December 20th, 2018 at the River Valley Hospice. The son of Joseph and Florence (Emerson) Cross, he was born March 18, 1946 in Russellville.
A long time educator, Earl was a 1971 graduate of Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and a 1975 graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, with a master’s degree in elementary school administration.
Earl served first as a classroom teacher in the Barton-Lexa School District beginning in 1972, then at the Magazine School District. In 1975, he became principal at Pottsville Elementary School, a position he held until 1980. During a break in service from education, Earl served as a draftsmen for General Dynamics working on the NASA space shuttle program and the Air Force F-16 change program.

Returning to education in 1987, Earl served as principal of the Fourche Valley School District for a semester before moving to the Lamar School District where he would serve another 16 years as principal, before retiring in 2003.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Earl entered the service in 1965, attending training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Knox, Kentucky before being deployed to the DMZ in South Korea as a tank commander, where he served until 1967. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Russellville to continue his education.

Survivors include, his wife and soulmate of 38 years, Connie C. Cross of Russellville, son, Ben D. Cross and wife Tammy of Dover. Sister, Lillian Apple, of Booneville. Sister’s in laws, Christine Gasperini (Steve) of Evans, Georgia; Cherri Moore (Tom) of Aiken, South Carolina; Chanda Crisp-Thornton (Mike) also of Aiken. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews who adored him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Bob Cross.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Pam Terry will officiate. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9-10AM, on Saturday, at the funeral home.
