Kathleen M. “Pat” Donahue (nee Boefferding) passed away peacefully at Breck Home in Bloomington on December 13, 2018 at the age of 89. Kathy spent the last few weeks of her life at Breck Home, where she received loving and nurturing 24-hour care from Jennifer Morgan and her fabulous staff. Special thanks to the team at Fairview Home Care and Hospice. They were a huge support since the start of hospice on September 4.

Kathy was born June 19, 1929, to John and Catherine (nee Miller) Boefferding in Hamel, MN., a farming community. The youngest of five girls, her father nicknamed her “Pat” when she was young, as she was the last hope for a son. She attended Holy Name Catholic School in Hamel, where she attended daily Mass, K-8. She went on to attend Minneapolis Vocational High School. She worked many years at the Mayflower Donut Shop in downtown Minneapolis.

In June 1964, she married William J Donahue at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in South Minneapolis. Bill and Kathy started a life in Northeast Minneapolis with their two children. In 1986, they built their dream home in Shoreview. In their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling.

After Bill’s passing in 2001, Kathy moved to a condominium in Plymouth to be near her sister, nieces and nephews. She tried to remain independent even though she had not driven since 1978. Special thanks to her friend Lillian Biel who helped get her to mass and the grocery store weekly. Lil was a friend from her building with a huge heart; another devoted Catholic Woman.

In March 2017, Kathy agreed to give up her independence. She moved to The Rivers Assisted Living in Burnsville to be near her daughter. Special thanks to the loving nursing staff there; Mary, Debbie, Jason, Tatsu, Kabe, Latchmi and of course, Sister Pranitha. Also, Jeannine Phillips, PA-C from Twin Cities Physicians for all of the in-house care over the past 18 months; as well as Donna and Brenda, the therapists from Interim Home Health Care that worked with Kathy at The Rivers.

Kathy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill; her parents, John and Catherine Boefferding; her four sisters and their spouses; Alice (Eckstein) Mercil, Louise Adams, Dorothy DeValk, and Eileen Berthuaime; two nephews and two nieces and brother in law James M Donahue.ii

Kathy will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Bill, in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
