Obituary for Bettye Lou Prachyl Jones
COLLEYVILLE - It is with great sadness that the family of Bettye P. Jones, 87, announces her passing on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018. Bettye passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Bettye was born in Weatherford and spent her first seven years with her family on the Woodhouse Ranch. At age seven, she moved to Diamond Hill, where she attended Diamond Hill United Methodist Church, and graduated from Diamond Hill High School. She attended North Texas State University where she earned her Bachelor's of Business Administration. While attending North Texas State University, she was a member of Pi Omega Pi sorority, Entre Amis sorority, Tau Gamma Chi, and Beta Epsilon. She then attended graduate school at the University of Texas. She was offered fellowships at North Texas State University, University of Texas, and Texas Christian University, but chose to instead establish and build upon the business courses offered by Birdville ISD, teaching at both Haltom High School, and Richland High School.

While teaching, she sponsored the Key Club (business club), organized and sponsored the Future Business Leaders of America, and she was secretary of the Birdville Classroom Teaching Association. Within her FBLA sponsorship, she had various students awarded at both the local and national level. Later in her career, she was awarded most outstanding business teacher in Tarrant County, recognized by the National Office Management Association.

Although she received many honors, each student's individual success was her top priority. Year after year, Bettye was invited back to student reunions where she was able to keep up with her students as they began their own careers.

Bettye married Dr. James P. Jones from Brady, Texas on June 18, 1960 in Fort Worth. Along with Bettye's support of James' veterinary practice in Hurst, she was active in local and civic activities such as Oak Crest Women's Club, the First United Church of Hurst, the Moslah Temple and the North Texas State Golden Eagle Club.

She enjoyed sporting events, supporting her children and local collegiate teams like Texas Christian University. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband; spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and attending family reunions.

Bettye was always looking for ways to improve her community and felt that this improvement begins with education in our school system. Her dedication to others has made a difference in many lives and her influence will continue throughout future generations.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Jones; and her parents, Venson and Jewell Prachyl.

Survivors: Son, Brad Jones and wife, Dedra, of Haslet; daughter, Marla Jones Pendery and husband, David, of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, Kendall Jones, Katy Jones, Preston Jones, David Pendery Jr. and wife, Ashley, Brady Pendery and wife, Paige, and Marisa Pendery; and great-grandchildren, David Pendery III, and Reagan Pendery.
