Mavis Roland Vandenberg, 98, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in Bowie.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the First Christian Church of Bowie with Lanny Hunt officiating.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
Arrangements entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
Mavis was born in June 18, 1920 in Bowie to J.W. and Cora (Redwine) King, and graduated from Bowie High School in 1938. She was a wonderful homemaker, and raised her family in the Bowie area.
Mavis loved her community. She was not only a member of the Bowie VFW and Bowie Hospital Auxiliaries, but a founder of the Bowie Senior Citizens Project. In 2004 Mavis was honored with the title of being a Jim Bowie Days Pioneer Princess. Mavis had been an active member of the First Christian Church for 85 years.
She will be remembered with love and appreciation for being a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob Roland, sons Don and Mack Roland, daughter Sherry Earnheart, grandson Shawn Earnheart, great-granddaughter Courtney Deuson, two brothers and four sisters.
Mavis is survived by her children Kristi Roland Hand and Kathi Gilmore, both of Bowie, and Kent Roland and wife Lisa of Wichita Falls; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
