Paul Lewis Mattingly, age 78, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at University of Louisville Hospital. Mr. Mattingly enjoyed various hobbies that included woodworking, farming, tinkering with tractors, working puzzles and reading. His strongest attribute however, was his strong faith and love of his family. He practiced both each morning as he sat at his kitchen table praying for each of his kids, grandkids and of course, his loving wife of 57 years, Brenda. Paul was an 18 year cancer survivor and in September of 2000 was one of the first participants in the original stem cell research program at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Mr. Mattingly was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Herman and Loretta Keenan Mattingly; and three brothers, Shelby Joseph, Romuald Wayne and Phillip Mattingly; and his son-in-law, Kelly Wathen. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Knott Mattingly; five children, Paula Mattingly (Joe) Miles, Louisville, KY, Teri Mattingly (Jeff) Stull, Payneville, KY, Laura Mattingly (Fred) Morsey, Ramsey, IN, Janet Mattingly (Kevin) Waters, Brandenburg, KY, Matthew (Casey) Mattingly, Guston, KY; two siblings, David Owen (Linda) Mattingly, Philpott, KY, Cassie Mattingly (Jerry) Walker, Balltown, KY; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018, at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, with Rev. Ronald Knott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg, from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, and at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Friday. Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church.
