Peggy Sue (Showalter) Snyder
June 26, 1939 ~ December 17, 2018
Peggy Sue (Showalter) Snyder was born June 26, 1939 to Ralph and Johnnie Belle (Veazey) Showalter at Maryville, Missouri. She was raised in Missouri and was one of 15 children. Peggy loved helping her mother with the younger siblings and also enjoyed helping with the cooking, laundry and ironing.
Throughout her youth, Peggy loved reading and sewing as well as spending time with her family and friends. She maintained these relationships throughout her life, always attending family functions, as well as keeping up with her girlfriends through cards, phone calls and Round Robin letters with her high school girl friends. Peggy graduated from Union Star High School in 1957 and then attended college at Northwest Missouri State. While in college, Peggy met Robert on a blind date. They were married on July 24, 1960.
In their early years of marriage, they resided in Missouri where their three sons were born. They later moved to Nebraska and had two daughters. After various moves within Nebraska, they settled in the Firth area to raise their children. In retirement, Peggy and Robert resided and farmed near Cortland and then Odell. When her children were in school Peggy drove a bus for Norris Public Schools. Most of her adult life, Peggy was a member of the Living Life Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School and God's Kids Club for many years in Firth. Peggy was a member of the Cortland Homemakers Extension Club. She loved to bake and her specialties were fried chicken and cinnamon rolls. Peggy was known to effortlessly prepare a huge meal for guests, whether expected or at the last minute and dessert was mandatory! She loved to quilt and taught many others how to quilt and also continued her love of reading throughout her lifetime. Peggy had a way of letting family and friends always know that they were special to her and deeply loved.
She passed away December 17, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 79 years.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert of Odell. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Johnnie, sisters, Barbara Ann Showalter, Betty Langosch, Beverly Beeney and Darlene LaBorde and brothers, Ralph W. Showalter and Lynn Showalter.
