Robert "Bob" S. Poe, age 95 of Findlay, passed away at 11:37 a.m. on December 16 surrounded by his family at Fox Run Manor. He was born on October 6, 1923 in Hancock County, Ohio to David Sylvester and Margaret "Maggie" (Lawrence) Poe. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Frances J. (Habegger) Poe, who he married June 4, 1944. Also surviving are his four children: Robert D. (Rachel) Poe of Findlay, Beverly (Jeffrey) Crawford of Fairport, NY, Lynda (Alfred) Benavides of Findlay, and Marcia (Paul) Parrick of Findlay and recently Hilton Head Island, SC; nine grandchildren: Andrea Adams (Tom) Miller, Brian (Jennifer) Poe, Kristin (Nathan) Zufelt, Dustin (Jessica) Wunderlich, Lauren Wunderlich, Alyssa Wunderlich, Jed (Kristina) Crawford, Jenna (Travis) Skinner, and Joy Crawford; twelve great grandchildren: Destiny (Keith) Van Horn, Devony and Demiya Miller, Ashton and Elianna Rouland, Cora Crawford, Riley and Mallory Poe, Nola and Maya Wunderlich, Madelyn and Calvin Zufelt, and one great-great grandchild, Mavis Van Horn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Carlos Poe of Rawson, and two sisters Ruth Bruce and Martha Bishop of Findlay. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Findlay for over 70 years and was a long-time member of the Crusaders Sunday School class. He served as a trustee of the church and a member of the Findlay Area Emmaus Community. He graduated from Rawson High School in 1941. He was drafted into the Army January 12, 1945, was stationed in the Philippines just before World War II ended, and spent one year in occupation forces in Japan. He was a building and remodeling contractor for 45 years. He built their home in the 1960's, where they live. Over the years he used his carpentry skills in a variety of volunteer jobs throughout Findlay including enhancements to Litzenberg Park, the construction of the Fort Findlay Playground at Emory Adams Park, and many years volunteering at the Boy Scout camp. He was a charter member of the Millstream Kiwanis Club for more than 20 years. He was a former member of the Men's Garden Club. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and camping. He and his wife traveled throughout the states including numerous trips to New York state visiting family. He spent many years deer hunting with friends in southern Ohio. He took a memorable trip to Washington, DC, as a World War II Veteran with the Flag City Honor Flight in 2011. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Ave, Findlay, Ohio. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28, with visitation one hour prior at St. Mark's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Hollinger officating. Burial will follow at Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia, with military rites conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
