Elton was born October 31, 1935 in Bartley, Nebraska to Ora and Hannah (Burton) Teter. He grew up and attended school in rural Furnas County, graduating from Cambridge High school in 1954. Elton joined the Army in 1954 and served as a radar operator and repairman until 1956. After the service, he worked for the Dinsdale Brothers farming operations in Palmer. Elton married Marjorie Bandt September 26, 1959 in Wolbach. He went back to school and earned an Associate's degree in Education from McCook, Bachelor's degree from Kearney State College, and his Master's degree from Fort Hays. He began teaching in 1963, and in 1970 he became the Superintendent of Amherst Public School until retiring in 1995. His homemade pizza was enjoyed by many of the high school sports teams during his tenure. Elton coached youth baseball, high school girls' basketball, and men's fast pitch softball. During retirement Elton became a "gentleman" farmer, raising pigs, cattle, chickens, guineas, and cats. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing adventures, and fixing up old tractors.
Elton is survived by his wife Marjorie Teter of Amherst; sons, Larry and wife Stacy Teter of Ogallala, NE, Daryl and wife Molly Teter of St. Paul, NE; sisters, Harriet Greening of Thornton, CO, Cleora Wymore of Lebanon, OR, Marilyn Torrez of North Platte, NE, Doris Laue of Kearney; brothers, Stuart Teter of Wolbach, NE, Delvin and wife Lola Teter of Wolbach, NE; sister-in-law, Marilyn Prentice of Wolbach, NE, Donna Bandt of Wolbach, NE; eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Elton was preceded in death by one grandson, Blake, two brothers, seven brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
