Terry Lee Simmons was born in Jacksonville, Florida to parents, Henry Alton “Al” Simmons and Evelyn Marie Karl Simmons on May 7, 1960. Terry graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1978 and then went on to further her education at Tarleton State University. Terry was the Stephens County Tax Assessor Collector for many years and was awarded Tax Assessor of the year in 1999. She was currently the Chief Appraiser at the Stephens County Tax Appraisal District. She also loved horses and the ranch life but found her greatest joy in taking care of her children. She was an active member of the Lions Club, Tax Assessor Collector Association, active member of several Appraiser associations, and had worked for many years as a volunteer for the Stephens County Livestock Show as treasurer.
Mitchel Andis Sullivan was born in Breckenridge, Texas to parents, David Lynn Sullivan and Dorothy Nell O’Dell Sullivan on October 14, 1960. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1979. Mitchel enjoyed roping, riding horses and everything that was associated with the ranch way of life, including bull riding in his younger years. In 2010, he was elected Agricultural Citizen of the Year. When his children were younger, he was always on the sidelines, coaching their sports teams. He worked many years for Stephens County and after retirement he devoted most of his time to Double S Cattle Company along with his wife Terry and was a longtime rancher in Stephens County. He served on the board of the FSA County committee. He worked for Stephens County until his retirement.
The two were married in January of 1990 and made their home in Breckenridge. The Sullivan’s were members of the Elks Lodge and the First Baptist Church, where Terry played piano for over 25 years.
Mitchel was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sullivan; and his grandparents, Charlie and Hazel Sullivan and JT and Lucille O’Dell. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Alton and Evelyn Simmons; and her grandparents, Pete and Mary Karl.
They are survived by their five children, Charlie Cade Sullivan and wife Megan of Arlington, Kelby Lane Sullivan of Dallas, Paxton Lee Sullivan of Breckenridge, Vance Karl Sullivan of Fort Worth, Anda Janae Sullivan along with Word Hudson of Abilene; and two grandchildren, Benjamin Levi Sullivan and Hudson Luke Sullivan. Mitchel is also survived by his father, David Sullivan of Breckenridge; two sisters, Trissie Dempsey and husband Mark, Jana Davis and husband Dennis, all of Breckenridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Terry is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Simmons and wife Judy of Aurora City, Kevin Simmons and wife Lou of Breckenridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, December 18th at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Justin Gandy and Rev. Andy Rodgers officiating. Interment followed in the Breckenridge Cemetery.
