"Mildred Marie Kasch of Fredericksburg passed away on December 7, 2018 at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 90.

Mildred was born on January 1, 1928 in Caldwell County, Texas to Otto and Alma (nee Schafer) Winkler. She grew up in San Marcos, Texas and graduated from San Marcos High in 1943. After graduation she enrolled in Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio, Texas. In 1948 she graduated and worked as a Registered Nurse in Santa Rosa hospital and in San Marcos hospital until 1950.

Mildred married Rayford William Kasch on August 27, 1950 in the First American Lutheran Church in San Marcos. Rayford and Mildred resided in Caldwell County in the 1950s as Rayford farmed and Mildred put her nursing career on hold to begin a family. The Kasch family moved to Fredericksburg in December 1960.

Mildred resumed her nursing career on October 3, 1966 at Knopp Nursing Home and worked there until retiring in 1987. After retirement she and Rayford enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and later she was thrilled to have great grandchildren. Rayford and Mildred could also be found together tending the family farm near Lockhart. Mildred was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her son–in-law Lee Dildy."
