Stella Sophia Bampton was the oldest of 5 children born to Henry Bampton and Sophia Howell. On 10 June 1920, she married Lawrence Benjamin Peatfield, son of Augustine Heard Peatfield, Jr and Lucy Mary (Ellsworth) Peatfield. They became the parents of 3 children: Eleanor Faye, born in 1921, William Arthur, born in 1923, and Gardner, born in 1925. Lawrence died in 1926 after being electrocuted on his job as a lineman. Stella never remarried. They are buried side by side.
