Joseph Elmer Burton, 66, Kokomo, passed away at 8:21 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018, at his home. He was born March 13, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, to William and Juanita (Tossier) Burton. On December 14, 1972, he married Brenda Deck, and she survives.

Joseph served in the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1969 to 1973 and went on to work for and retire from Chrysler. He loved traveling, his jeep, giving to others, and the holidays. He cherished spending time with family and was a softball coach for his daughter and supported his grandchildren in their many activities. He was very proud of his son’s service in the Army and was a lifetime member of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization and VFW Post 1152.

In addition to his wife, Brenda Burton, he is survived by his children, Stephanie Bunch, Joseph (Bora) Burton, Jr., and Kerrie (Josh) Kucholick; grandchildren, Chance Finder, Isabelle Kucholick, Jake Burton and Lillian Kucholick; and siblings, Richard Burton, William (Rodney) Burton, Bert Ann Smith and Roger Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Trae Rollhaus.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Brian Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with military honors to be provided by the United States Navy and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization.
