Kevin Elijah Holmes was born on May 14, 1954 in Jersey City, New Jersey, son of the late Rev. Jake Holmes and Ruth W. Holmes. He was the third child born from this union. Kevin graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. Kevin worked as a Correctional Officer at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center in Morristown, New Jersey.
At an early age, Kevin accepted Christ as his savior and his Christian journey began at Beulah Gospel Tabernacle UHC and Faith & Victory UHC where his grandfather, the late Rev. James Pleasant and his father Rev. Jake Holmes were pastors respectively. Being the son of a preacher, or “PK,” as he was fondly called by his family and friends, learned that “we are saved to serve.” Kevin was a praying man who truly loved the Lord. Anyone who knew Kevin, he would always talk about the Lord. He often would share Biblical scriptures and stories with anyone willing to listen.
Kevin was a hardworking and dedicated member of Deliverance Jesus is Coming Church in Irvington, New Jersey for over 25 years where he faithfully served in the Adjutant ministry. Kevin considered it an honor and a privilege to assist the Bishop where needed. He often accompanied the Bishop when he traveled all over the country. Not only was Kevin an Adjutant to Bishop James H. Everett, he was actively involved in a variety of ministries in the church.
His other great love was his son, Daniel Benjamin Holmes. He was a “Great Hands on Dad.” He cared for Daniel as a single parent all of his life. Kevin would often say Danny was his greatest achievement and honored to be entrusted by God for the care of his son.
On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Kevin Elijah Holmes departed this life suddenly to be with the Lord.
