Galen was the son of Edward EVARTS (1864-1936) and Alice Mattie TOWNSEND (1873-1936). He was born in Richmond, Ontario County, New York. He grew up in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, living with his parents. He attended Charlotte High School in Rochester before the family moved to Long Beach, California, where he attended and graduated from Polytechnic High School, Class of February 1927. On June 24, 1929, he married Dorothy Helen BOGNER (1910-2002). The couple first lived with his parents, and Galen worked as a clerk at a bank. One son was born to the marriage: Peter Galen Townsend EVARTS (1931-1986). The young family was in Long Beach, California, thru 1937. By 1939, they had moved to Rochester, New York, where Galen worked as a teller. By 1940, Galen was living in Rochester, and wife Dorothy was living in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan, with their son. On December 29, 1941, in Oakland County, Michigan, his wife petitioned for divorce; divorce was granted on June 15, 1942. On June 23, 1942, in Rochester, New York, Galen enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private. By November, 1942, Galen and Dorothy Jane WHATFORD (1922-2003) were presenting as a married couple. However, it was August 17, 1946, in Rochester, New York, when Galen and Dorothy WHATFORD legally married. Three sons were born to Galen and his second wife: Michael Jay EVARTS (1942-2005), a son born in 1947, and a son born in 1949. Galen’s second marriage ended, and he married Lois WRIGHT (b. 1921). Galen’s fifth son was born to Lois in November 1950 in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. In the early 1950s, Galen, Lois, and their son Alan (1950-2018) lived in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, while Galen worked in South Bend, as a salesman for a cemetery. By 1958, Galen had moved his family to Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana, and was working as the manager of a large cemetery. His son Alan grew up in Mishawaka. In later years, Galen returned to working at a bank and was employed by the National Bank & Trust in Mishawaka. He died at his home from a sudden heart attack. His ashes were scattered at Canandaigua Lake in New York, where he had hunted as a young man.

Galen's grandfathers were Galen B. EVARTS (1836-1910, findagrave # 15743946) and Albert E. TOWNSEND (1842-1910, findagrave # 1260098).
