MITZI ROSE BROADWAY LOPEZ age 47, of Timberlake, NC died Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2018 from complications of a throat infection.

Mitzi loved people, especially children who were abused or marginalized. She reached out to people who were alone, sick, or homeless. This concern for others was seen in her as early as age five. It was a special empathy for all in need of love or care. Mitzi never met a stranger, but avoided those who wounded others through mockery or judgementalism. She had a heart for animals: loved horses, dogs, cats, and even exotic pets. She worked as a ramp agent at RDU, was a chef at Sheraton Imperial, managed restaurants in Greensboro, Gastonia, and Wilmington, as well as Alabama and Mississippi.

Mitzi could cook your dinner or repair your car. Creative with jewelry and poetry, she won several awards. She even worked on becoming a pilot. Well-rounded, fun-loving, and caring, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her parents, E.T. “Mickey” Broadway, Jr, Marion Cherry Broadway, son, Mark Lopez, brother, Thomas Broadway (Beth), aunts & uncles, Joyce Cherry Whitaker (Dan), Evelyn Cherry Holt (Glen), Thomas L. Cherry (Carolyn).

Mrs. Lopez is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dwight P. Cherry, Sr. and Bertha Lee Green Cherry, paternal grandparents, E.J. Broadway, Sr. and Minnie Steele Broadway, cousin, Duryl Cross, and uncle, Dwight Cherry, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Dr. M. David Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by Strickland and Jones Memorial Funeral Services, 1810 Durham, Road, Roxboro, NC 27573. Online condolences may be made at stricklandandjonesfs.com.
