“Bip,” as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was employed as an Assembly Line Worker at General Motors Corporation in Linden for 36 years. He retired as a Benefit Representative in 1990.
He was interested in politics all of his life, which led him to run for Councilman in Elizabeth and Bip was a mentor to others in politics. Bip was a member of the NAACP and National Urban League in Elizabeth all of his adult years. Marion and others brought the NAACP branch to Roselle. Bip was a member of the American Legion Post No. 499 in Rahway. He was one of the founding members of the Roselle Fishing Club.
Bip was a member of First Baptist Church in Linden and was recently honored by the church on their 95th anniversary.
On Thursday, June 14, 2018, Marion “Bip” Watson departed this life at Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth at the age of ninety-five.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Wilhelmay Cooper Watson; son: Dr. Charles Watson and stepson, Eugene Coleman, Jr.; daughter, Emma Jean Watson; brother, Hugh Watson and sisters: Georgia Mae Burns, Gertrude Watson and Lula Brown.
Bip leaves to cherish fond memories, his daughters: Lorraine McGriff (Tommy, Sr.) of Roselle, New Jersey and Loretta L. Watson of Linden, New Jersey; sister, Iola Watson of Roselle, New Jersey; 17 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of dear relatives and friends.
