Funeral services will be held for Timothy Yang Ho Gill, 58, who passed away Sunday, Dec. 9 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. A memorial service will be held at Wilbert Funeral Home, 440 South Alexander Avenue in Port Allen, on Friday, Dec. 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Room at Corner Bar, 3103 Johnston Street in Lafayette, on Monday, Dec. 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Born in South Korea, Tim is the son of Chom Ye Gill and Larry P. Gill of Vine Grove, KY, an American soldier stationed in South Korea. Tim moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Radcliff, KY. He attended the University of Kentucky and earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1987. As a successful chemical engineer, Tim lived and worked all over the United States. For the better part of fifteen years, Tim worked for Cabot Corporation as Technical Manager in several of their locations, including Franklin, LA, Ville Platte, LA, Tuscola, IL and Sarnia, Canada. Tim returned to Lafayette in 2005 and married his beloved wife Karin Janine Julia Gill in 2012. The couple resided in Lafayette until 2014 when Tim took on what would become his professional legacy: Plant Manager at SE Tylose in Plaquemine, LA, building the plant from the ground up. Since that time, Tim and Karin have resided in Port Allen. A lifelong runner and athlete, Tim completed countless marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons. He became an Ironman in 2003 at the Wisconsin Ironman, then went on to complete Ironman Florida in 2016 and Ironman Arizona in November 2018. Known for his ever-present smile, his good humor, and his support of his fellow runners and triathletes, Tim could often be found pacing a fellow runner on his/her first race, giving pep talks to friends as they faced daunting Ironman competitions, or holding signs and cheering or crewing for road and trail races. A member of the Cajun Road Runners Club, Tim regularly participated in group runs in Acadiana even after moving to Port Allen. When not running, Tim could be found with his wife cycling, kayaking, or watching Kentucky basketball. Tim enjoyed cooking, especially for his friends. Tim loved a good game of poker and his Catahoula hounds. He and Karin rescued and fostered a number of Catahoulas as well as other breeds over the years, including their current pet Pepper and foster Roxy. Tim is preceded in death by his mother, Chom Ye and his dog and running companion, Lucky. In lieu of flowers, Tim's family is requesting that donations be made in his honor to the New Orleans Mission at www.neworleansmission.org, Blackjack Catahoula Rescue at www.blackjackrescue.org, or Our Lady of the Lakes Medical Center in Baton Rouge at https://ololrmc.com/ways-to-give/online-donation designation NCCU (Neurological Critical Care Unit).
