James Robert “Val” Valentine III, 88, of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, December the 13th, 2018.

Val was born in New York City, New York to James Robert Valentine II and Anna Marie Valentine on May 16th, 1930.

Val was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Trudy Valentine in 2016.

He is survived by his three children, James Robert “Bob” Valentine IV, Steven Douglas Valentine and Tracy Valentine Powell along with Bob’s partner, Tara Martin, and Steven and Tracy’s spouses, Victoria Valentine and John Powell. He is survived by five grandchildren, Amber Small, Desiree Valentine, Kylie Valentine McDonald, Holly Valentine Powell and Brooke Valentine; and two great grandchildren, Julia Murray and Evelyn Valentine.

He is further survived by his siblings, Donald Valentine, Dennis Valentine, Kevin Valentine, Louise Valentine, Kathy Valentine Heikes and Joan Garcia.

Val joined the Air Force in November 1947 when he was only 17 years old. Val met Walt Benson, his best friend for life, early on in his Air Force career. Val and Walt were in the same Navigator training program and then afterward were barrack roommates in Altus, Oklahoma. While living in the barracks, Walt told Val one day that he had just called Sheila in San Antonio to propose marriage. Val said, “that’s not a bad idea”, and went down the hall to the barracks phone and called Trudy in Houston to propose. They both got married the following Saturday, February 5th, 1955.

While serving in the United States Air Force, Val and Trudy traveled the world while raising their family. Val also served in the Air Force Reserve. After achieving the rank of Major, he retired from the Air Force. He then obtained his Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Texas and worked for the State of Texas until his retirement.

Val loved being with his family, socializing, spending time on his boat on Lake Travis, the beach, Longhorn football, photography, animals, gadgets of all kinds and most of all Trudy. He had a great passion for understanding the world, society and politics.

There will be a private family service per Val’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.
