MANTACHIE – Carolyn Heatherly Matthews, 71, died Monday, December 10, 2018, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a dedicated Christian woman in the town of Mantachie and it showed in her kindness and dedication to her family and friends. She was a member of the First Jesus Name Church of Mantachie for 48 years, where she played the piano, guitar, and sang.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Jacky Byrd officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include her loving husband of 15 years, Garey Matthews, one daughter, Glenda Heatherly Thompson; one God granddaughter, Layla Spratt; one step-daughter, Melissa Alexander (Kelly), all of Tupelo; two step-sons, Jeff Matthews and Scott Matthews, both of Plantersville; one sister, Patsy Byrd; one nephew, Bro. Jacky Dale Byrd; one niece, Tonya Byrd; two great nephews, Austin Byrd (Tyler), and Colton Byrd, all of Mantachie; Ten step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruble and Earlene Franks Fennell; three brothers-in-law, Jacky R. Byrd, Bobby Matthews, and Larry Matthews.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time Tuesday, December 11, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.

The family wishes to thank a very special group of nurses and staff on the south hall of the Sanctuary Hospice House.
