Martha was the daughter of John Wesley and Sarah (Gallinger) McLean. She first married William Lion McKenzie January 23, 1889 in Midland, Michigan. Together they had ten children. The kids were raised in the Pleasant Valley area of Jasper Township, Michigan. Pleasant Valley is a small settlement consisting of little more than a church and a general store set amid fertile farm land. She was to later marry James Howard Rowley.
