Joy Peterson, 75, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on November 23, 1943 in Woods Cross, Utah to Neils Archie Peterson and Leah Howard Peterson.

Joy graduated from Bountiful High School and attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where she received both her bachelors and master’s degrees in Physical Education with a Geography minor.

She held the position of professor at Southern Utah State College from 1977 to 2005. Where she retired after 29 years teaching and also coaching volleyball, basketball and softball.

During her high school and college years she played for the Utah Shamrocks softball team. She played the position of pitcher and shortstop and the Shamrocks were state champions and attended national’s numerous times. She retired in 1978.

Joy is survived by her brother Val (Judy, deceased) Peterson, Cedar City, UT, sister, Marva (Ray) Yamauchi, Grace, ID, nephews, Curt (Laurel) Peterson, St. George, UT, Kelly (Teresa) Peterson, Washington, UT, Craig Peterson, Cedar City, UT, Ryan (Tonja) Yamauchi, Soda Springs, ID, Rawlee (Hailey) Yamauchi, Grace, ID, and nieces, Mary (Brian) King, Bountiful, UT, Janie Curtis, Logan, UT, Christine (Dan) Meyer, Fort Collins, CO, Cori (Darren) Hyatt, Cedar City, UT, Nichole Yamauchi (Jason) Hansen, Rigby, ID and Leigh Yamauchi (Steve) Sherwood, San Tan Valley, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother Larry Peterson.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Cedar LDS 4th Ward Chapel (500 W 400 N, Cedar City, UT). A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00 – 10:30 am at the Cedar 4th Ward. Interment will take place on Saturday December 15, 2018 at 1:00 pm in Bountiful City Cemetery.
