Dixon, Andrew Douglas
Age 55 of Ithaca, born November 18, 1958 in Ithaca, NY, passed away March 4, 2014. Andrew was a beloved father, son, and brother. He lived a successful professional life and was devoted to his children, Erik and Leah. Growing up in Ithaca and spending his youth on Cayuga, Andrew was a true son of the town. Loved by his family and friends, Andrew refused to obey the standard pieties of life. His unique perspective and sharp mind, matched with his provocative yet personable attitude, produced a character many of the people who knew him will miss. Andrew's professional career began in Ithaca, working as an Assistant Controller at the Ithaca Hour Agency. After receiving his B.S. in Communications from Cornell University in 1981, Andrew moved to New York City to work as a financial analyst for Stonehenge Capital Corp., followed by The Patrician Group, The ITD Group, and Retirement Centers Network Inc. In the mid-1990s, Andrew began a second career managing law firms and consulting for real estate in New York and Connecticut. Returning to Ithaca in the early 2000s, Andrew dedicated his professional career to the growth of his home town. As Founder and Senior Fellow of Anthology Resources Group and 52/Mad Scientists, Andrew contributed his financial and real estate acumen to his consultancy on many real estate development projects, including Center Ithaca and the Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA), the Commons, the Gateway developments, and most recently the Chain Works District. Andrew was a lifelong musician and supporter of the arts. For the last few years, he served on the board of trustees for the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) in Ithaca, and was serving as its President up until his death. Survived by son, Erik of New York, NY; daughter, Leah of Boston, MA; brother, Alan of Binghamton, NY; sister, Deborah Guild of Columbus, OH; ex-wife, Debra Montner of Westport, CT; and ex-wife, Roberta Dixon of Ithaca. A memorial service to honor the life of Andrew will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31st, 2014, at CSMA at 330 E. State Street/Martin Luther King Jr. in Downtown Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CSMA or the Jewish National Fund (JNF).
