Sammy Lee Powell, 58, went to be with the Lord, unexpectedly, on December 8, 2018. Sammy was born in Bay City, Texas, to Harry Lane and Tommye Raye Powell on June 15, 1960.
He was a graduate of Tidehaven High School and attended Sam Houston State University. Sammy loved country music and entertainment, prompting a move to Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked for Crystal Gayle and Gayle Enterprises. After returning to Texas, Sammy worked as a caregiver and case-worker for special needs adults.
Sammy had a passion for plants and animals, and he was an exceptional cook. He enjoyed God’s gifts and had a special fondness for the country life. He enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the sunset with family. He was known for his quick wit and compassionate spirit. Sammy recently moved to Collegeport, Texas, to begin the next chapter of his life with his immediate family.
Sammy is preceded in death by his father, Harry Lane and mother, Tommye Raye; and grandparents, Herman and Minnie Powell and Willis and Etta Epperson.
He is survived by his sister, Samantha Franzen (Derril); nieces, Stephanie Busby (Brian) and Savannah Moeller (Jeff; great nephews, Reese Jordan Busby, Carter Wayne Busby, Banks Lee Busby and Jake Wyatt Moeller; great niece Sloane Raye Moeller; stepmother, Marsha Powell; stepbrothers, Lance Feldhousen (Lesa) and Flint Feldhousen (Brandi); step nephew, Bryant Feldhousen; step nieces, Layne Feldhousen and Logan Feldhousen; aunt, Ginger Zemanek (Victor); and many cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Blackburn officiating.
Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas.
