Doug was born on September 1, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas to B.E. and Ruth Roberts. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended the University of Houston. His working career began in Computer Operations at Teledyne Exploration in Houston where he would spend 44 years moving through leadership roles such as Purchasing Manager, IT Manager, Environmental and Safety Manager, and Facilities Manager. He retired from Teledyne in 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alexandria (Sandy) Kutra Roberts; daughter and son-in-law Robyn and Doug Weller; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Amanda Roberts; and two beloved grandchildren, Lauryn and Carson Weller; his sisters, Gwen Minor of Mount Dora, FL, Gail Houser of Columbus, KS, Jean Greer of Pinole, CA, and Glenda Buchanan of Highland Ranch, CO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, B.E. and Ruth Roberts.

He enjoyed his retirement years. He loved hunting, fishing, waterskiing, and the outdoors. Being a kid at heart himself, he mostly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren, Lauryn and Carson, who affectionately called him Poppy. He was known as a loving, kind, and supportive man with a huge sense of humor. He touched numerous lives with his joyous spirit bringing smiles to those around him.

A wake and rosary will be held at Earthman Funeral Home in Stafford, TX from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 15th. Funeral mass will be held at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX on Wednesday, August 16th, at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions are welcome to American Lung Association or Houston Hospice located at 1905 Holcombe Blvd in Houston.
