OTTUMWA – Paul J. Johns, 90, of Ottumwa died at 2:53 p.m. December 8, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.

He was born December 3, 1928 in Ottumwa to Lee and Mildred Scott Johns. He married Dorothy Jean Williams on April 7, 1956.

He served in the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and then with the Iowa National Guard retiring after 20 years.

Paul worked for John Morrell and Co. for 23 years, 10 years at Hormel and he delivered for Drug Town and South Side Drug.

Surviving is his wife, Dorothy of Ottumwa; a daughter, Martha (Mike) Gahafer of Bellflower, CA; two sons, Lee (Cindy) Johns and Lowell (Melody) Johns both of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice Johns of Galesburg, IL, Richard E. Johns of Decatur, IL and Wilbur Johns of Ottumwa; two sisters, Zelma Fisk and Delores (Bill) Reid both of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Johns II; a brother, Marshall Johns and two sisters, Alberta Reid and Charlene Pruitt.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Loyd Osborn officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
