Mr. Johnny Morris, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, December 8, 2018, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County, was a 1962 graduate of Montgomery County High School, and has lived in Mt. Vernon since 1962. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Vietnam Era, and retired from Plant Telephone Company after thirty-five years. Johnny was a member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church and attended College Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Earlier in his life, he coached Recreation baseball, and was a continued supporter of Georgia Bulldog football. He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Morris; his parents, Rex “Coot” Morris and Lallage Johnson Morris; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Couey.

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Glenda Davis Morris of Mt. Vernon; three children, Rich Morris and wife Janet of McRae-Helena, Matt Morris and wife Stephanie of Warner Robins, and Mike Morris of Atlanta; one daughter-in-law, Stella Morris of Higgston; four sisters, Nolie Williams and husband Billy of Uvalda, Vonnie Hart and husband Bud of Cedar Crossing, Jean Couey of the Stuckey Community, and Dorothy Gordon and husband Tommy of Alston; one brother, Charles Morris and wife Martha of Vidalia; one sister-in-law, Betty McCoy of Perry; seven grandchildren, Sara Morris and husband Charlie, Zachary Morris, Logan Morris, Mason Morris, Carson Morris, Brant Lowe, and Ansley Gore; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Durden and Reverend Randall Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
