Born in Saint Claude, the daughter of pioneers, she had four sisters and four brothers. She married in 1933 and had two sons who died tragically by drowning, aged 7 and 8 years old, while trying to cross an iced over river in Winnipeg. She had three life partners after her marriage. She moved to the Vancouver area and was close to her parents, some of her siblings, and some of her many nieces and nephews there.

Her cremains were scattered on Thousand Flowers Pond.
