Obituary
Joe Watson made the trip to heaven at his home on December 8, 2018. Known as Big Joe, he was born in Wallace, VA on June 16, 1939 to the late E.H. and Girthel Noonkester Watson. Joe was owner of Tri-Cities Industrial Builders and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. Joe was a board member for Virginia Highlands Community College and the Salvation Army and was active in Rotary Club and formerly active in the Boy Scouts. He served for a period of time on the Bristol Virginia Planning Commission.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Watson; sister, Haroldine Watson Canter and adopted son, Jairo Ramirez.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; children, Joey D. Watson and wife Tammy and Joyce Ann Icenhour and husband Tim; three grandchildren, Joshua Watson, Chelsi Moore and husband Greg and Luke Icenhour; great grandchildren, Paisley Moore and Saylor Moore; his sister, Mary Russ; and several nieces and nephews. His beloved Fannie Mae was his constant canine companion for the last 7 years.
Big Joe, self-declared Mayor of Wallace, spent most of his life in Bristol, VA working in construction and commercial development. Telling a good story was his favorite thing. He was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Mountain View Cemetery with Ann and Frank Aichinger officiating. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday from 3 until 6 p.m. at The Virginian.
