With his brother William, he passed away March 28, 1943, while trying to cross the Assiniboine River on the ice by the Main Street Bridge, when they crashed through the ice and drowned.

In an extract from the Winnipeg Free Press of Tuesday March 30, 1943:

Mr and Mrs Jensen had come home from church and were making lunch for the boys to take to school when they were informed of their death. The boys were born in Winnipeg and were living with their parents at the home of their uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Larose. Both parents are employed at Quinton's dry-cleaning plant in Fort Rouge. Joey was in grade one and Billie in grade two at St Mary's school. They were interested in amateur boxing and airplanes.

Story:
St. Mary's Cathedral was filled this morning when the triple funeral service was held at 10.30 for the boy victims of the tragic drowning accident Sunday evening in the Assiniboine River, at Main St. Bridge.

Victims of the tragedy were: William Karboski-Jensen, 8, and Joseph Karboski-Jensen, 7, sons of Mr and Mrs Thomas Jensen, 137 Smith St., and Gerald Bottomley, 9, son of Pte John Bottomley, now serving overseas, and Mrs Bottomley, 132 Smith St.

Rt Rev Frank Wood sang the Mass of the Angels. He was assisted by Rev Thomas Murphy, as deacon, and Rev Bernard Linscott, as sub-deacon. Boys of the Sanctuary Club; from Grades 1 to 4, were present in the sanctuary and the Children's choir of St Mary's School, took part in the singing of the mass. All the pupils from St Mary's School, which the three little boys attended, were also present for the· funeral service.

Rev T Murphy officiated at the final rites in Assiniboine Memorial Park Cemetery, and the Barker funeral chapel was in charge of arrangements. Prayers were said at the chapel Wednesday night.
